What the industry was screaming for: A financial support system for professional athletes who suffered severe and career ending injuries.

What we did: By first communicating with the largest event organizers (ESPN X Games and NBC/MTV Dew Tour) we built a foundation that would quickly gain nonprofit status and the support of several companies who market in action sports (Ball Park, Nerf, Oakley, Rockstar Energy Drink, Nike, Paul Mitchell, Mt. Dew, FUEL TV, Vans, Matador, Etnies, Totino’s, Woodward, Playstation, and more) and even the athletes themselves. In the toughest economy since the great depression and just over two and a half years ARF has raised over three quarters of a million dollars. ARF has supported low income professionals with getting insurance or paying for specialty rehab facilities not covered by insurance, flown family members to be with an injured athlete and put them in a hotel, provided emergency air ambulance transportation internationally, covered costs involved with funeral services and so much more.

The review: Where so many others had fallen short in the past Athlete Recovery Fund is the only nonprofit organization in action sports that is built purely for benefits of the athletes and supported by event organizers, brands and the athletes themselves. Some brands even see ARF as a way to legitimize their entry to action sports.
